The Glorious Fashion Illustrations of René Gruau

I recently came across a 2006 calendar I had of René Gruau's fashion illustrations and just had to share.
How amazing was he?

Oh, CL! You're so fab...

Ahhh, Cannes, France.
Sun, sand, culture, great films, great food and now the great Christian Louboutin.

Christian Louboutin presents 'Le Carrosse Noir And The Loubi's Angels' at Palm Beach Casino during the 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2010 in Cannes, France.

Kylie Minogue wore these boots during her world tour. She looked gorgeous in them but didn’t move around the stage very much!

The Man

The Shoes

Thanks to Louboutin, the lace bootie has become a classic.  Thank God.

These ones make me happy to be a girl....

Speechless

And if you're like me and want to know what the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes looks like, here goes:

The Weekly DOA

The 2010 Met Costume Gala Red Carpet (May 2) was witness to some serious fashion crimes.
However, none was more serious than this shit:

Blake Lively in a Marchesa catasrophe

Either this woman loves her body so much she has to show every part of it or her stylist is a pervert.  Either way, she's dressed all wrong most of the time.  The last thing she should be doing is trying a Marchesa.  Only experts can pull off the OTT that is Marchesa.
 She needs a fashion intervention--STAT.

And I bet you all thought Tina Fey & her very talked-about-jumpsuit would make the DOA this week.
Not a chance!

YSL Apartment For Sale

So, the day has finally come; YSL’s iconic apartment on the rue de Babylone in Paris is up for sale.

The 11-room duplex is 5,600 square feet and has a ridiculously breathtaking 4,700-square-foot garden.
If you’re in the market for a Paris apartment and you have $34.1 million hanging around, you should consider this place:

OMG.  I would never leave the library....

“The door opened, and right in front of me, there was a window overlooking the garden,” Mr. Saint Laurent recalled in a Vogue Decoration interview in 1986. “And that was that.” ~ quote from NYT

The Met Costume Institute Gala 2010 ~ Red Carpet

Last night, the fashion elite (and some unworthy celebrities) descended upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC for the Annual Costume Institute Gala.

The good news is, most of the models and fashion designers looked amazing.  The other good news is, most of the other attendees looked like they were trying too hard.
This basically means I have something to blog about today.

I saw a lot of white/off-white dresses on the Red Carpet last night but only a chosen few got it right.

Best Whites

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know Vera Wang could work it in white.
It hurts me to put Taylor Swift on my blog at all, let alone a best dressed list but her dress last night was gorgeous.  Also, her hair & makeup were spot on.
Donna Karan.  Perfection.  Can't say much more about her.
Tommy Hilifiger's wife, Dee Ocleppo looked marvelous in her white gown.  Simple and elegant.

Best Colour
Ok, so it's more like best pink tones but here they are anyway.
Naomi Watts suits this fuschia colour, pefectly.  Also, I don't mind that big puffy thing on her shoulder--it works.
Thandie Newton in Vivienne Westwood = British Gorgeousness.  Thandie can do no wrong.
Rachel Weisz in a hot pink Oscar de la Renta gown added some freshness to the sea of blacks, dark blues and fashion tragedies.  When will celebs figure out that 'When worse comes to worse, go with Oscar".  It's a no-brainer.
Carolina Herrera looked like royalty last night.

Best--period:

Anna Wintour in Chanel basically means all is well with the fashion world.  She looked marvelous.
Camilla Belle was the best in Red last night.  There wasn't much red but her and this Jason Wu dress was gorgeousness.
Kate Bosworth in this glorious Valentino dress looked beautiful last night.  From head-to-toe.  Her stylist shoud take a bow.
I loved that Alexa Chung wore this Phillip Lim suit.  It's her and she knows how to pull it off.

Some other greats:
The Mighty Opes in Oscar de la Renta
Alessandra Ambrosio in Versace
SJP in Halston
Iman in Prada

It was hard to narrow The Stinkers down to four--this list should be more like 20.
The Stinkers:

Just because it's Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler, doesn't make it right.  From the hair to the dress to the footwear choice--it's all kinds of ugly.
Kristen Stewart in Chanel: I'll let the picture do the talking.
Diane Kruger has had an amazing fashion year but hit an all-time low last night in this boring Calvin Klein dress.  It needed a plunging something or other.
As for January Jones, the dress (YSL) wouldn't be as bad if she lost the gloves and wore normal makeup.  WTF?

Most OTT
These three (Anne Hathaway, Doutzen Kroes & Coco Rocha) thought they would steal the show.

Wrong, wrong & wronger.
I smell desperation.
