Halston Was Never Going To Be Easy

Creating the charm and elegance that was Halston was never going to be easy.
Over the last few years, designers have come and gone, making the Halston legacy even more mysterious and unattainable.
So, here we go again.  It's NYFW and Halston Fall 2010 made it's debut last night to 'so-so' reviews.
We fashionistas certainly are opinionated!

FA happened to really like the line.  Sure, most pieces are only good for the Red Carpet but what's wrong with that?
Oh, that's right.  We forgot; designer's have to make money.
Aw, shucks!

Some of the lovely (and colorful!) pieces from the Feb 15 show:

We think Julianne Moore should buy this outfit.  Would look incredible on her!  Ha! What wouldn't?

New York Fashion Week - Day 1 (you may have missed it!)

With the dark cloud of Alexander McQueen's apparent suicide looming, New York Fashion Week proceeded according to schedule on February 11, 2009.  However, his McQ show was cancelled, of course.
While all of us fashionistas across the globe wiped our tears, this is what we missed on the first day of Fashion Week in NYC:

BCBG Max Azria:
this brand is designing for the customer and only for their (current) customer.  They didn't take any risks which is understandable--retail is tough right now and they want to secure sales.
That being said, I think we need to get over all this 'doom & gloom' and start creating again.
Some of the best looks:

I love the white hosiery.  Nice contrast to the heaviness that is fall.

Ports 1961:
I love this brand.  So wearable but just so well-made and most pieces have an edge to them.
The earthtones/neutrals were scrumptious!

*Those cuties Dean & Dan of Dsquared2 used to design for this house in the 80's.

Mackage:
Another Canadian success story.  If you go out searching for a winter coat, chances are you'll fall in love with one from Mackage.  Great quality, style and the prices are extremely affordable.

Richard Chai Love:
Not feeling the 'love' for this line.  It's too bulky and frumpy.  His shapes do nothing for the female form.
However, off the runway, a lot of his designs could work as a lot of his pieces are very transitional.

Toni Maticevski:
Following in the steps of Elie Saab, this guy loves to design for the red carpet.
However, he has also created some KILLER pieces--especially blouses.  Gorgeousness....

We'll blog more NYFW later in the week, once the show is over.

Valentino Go 'Bye, Bye'

Let’s face it, fashion lovers; sometimes couture isn’t exactly wearable. Many designs are over-the-top and are more theatrical than anything. And the price? That’s another story.

Couture is the designer's way of selling us the dream. Unfortunately, many of us can’t afford to buy that dream but many of us can certainly own a piece of the dream like a belt or a scarf.
Basically, couture is created to influence the RTW lines—this is what makes the fashion houses money. Well, RTW & accessories and all the other licensed products like fragrance, sunglasses etc.
It’s also created for the women (very few) in the world that can actually afford couture. I’m sure the client list is very small.
That being said, Valentino was one of those couture designers that not only sold us the dream, he created pieces that were wearable—every piece was wearable. This is rare for couture and he did it every season for about 50 yrs.
He was quite the designer—we’re still going gaga over him since watching his fantastic documentary, ‘Valentino: The Last Emperor’
If you love fashion you need to see this film.

So, like any fashion-obsessed blogger, Fashion Autopsy was quite intrigued to see the Valentino 2010 Spring Couture line because of all the negative comments coming out of Paris post show.
‘How bad could it be?’ we thought.
Well, it’s bad. Especially when you compare it to Valentino Garavani’s last Spring Couture show in 2008.

See for yourself:

Valentino Spring 2010 Couture

Hideous

Most of the pieces are so bad, we don't even know what to say.

Today, the media is all buzzing about the latest comment from Valentino's BF & business partner, Giancarlo Giametti. Aparently, he didn't like the Spring 2010 Couture line and didn't have a problem saying so--on Facebook:

"[H]e was “not sad … just surprised. … We have always supported the new designers and we love them, but this time we have to distance ourselves from this ridiculous circus.”

Giammetti concluded (to WWD) both he and Garavani “are always supportive of the designers of Valentino, even if we don’t approve of their effort to be cool at all costs. But we will always be [supportive] of them.” The house of Valentino declined to comment.

He's being too nice but I guess he has to since it's his partner's name that's being dragged through the fabulous mud of Paris Couture.

Here are the two responsible for this disaster:

Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri

They're fucked.

Lacroix, Sweetie....Lacroix!

We're feeling all nostalgic today as the world of Couture has gone on but has left one of the greats in the dust.
Like Eddy & Patsy, we're crying into our glasses of wine or whatever we can get our hands on.  :(

This time last year, Christian Lacroix showed his very last Spring Couture line.
We're all sad but let's look back at that Spring 2009 Couture show....maybe a trip down memory lane will help us forgive the fashion world.  Sigh.

Christian Lacroix
Spring 2009 Couture
Location: The Pompidou Centre, Paris

Most of these trends are just starting to get hot for Spring 2010. Couture is always the leader.

Bows, bows and more bows.....

Polka Dots......

Stripes/Nautical look...

He'll be missed.  However, in the time that we're living in, how much is Couture really needed?
Sure, it's wonderful to sit and watch the shows and critique each and every thread but designers don't get paid for that.  They get paid by selling their creations.
The big question in the Couture world is: Who's buying?

GQ's Most Stylish Men In The World, 2010--We Disagree

Well, looks like Johnny Depp is taking this title home.
In the February issue of GQ magazine, they are announcing the most stylish man in the world for 2010 and his name is Johnny Depp.

Here’s the list of guys that Johnny beat out:

Robert Pattinson   (whatever)
Andre Benjamin    (He's not on our list but maybe should be?)
Russell Brand        (gross)
Tom Brady            (Who?)
Ryan Gosling         (He's on our list, too! <3 )
Paul Simonon        (Some old rocker dude-we don't care)
L.A Reid               (A $ suit doesn't make you a better person)
Spike Jonze           (We likey but he didn't make the cut for us)
David Byrne           (Finding it hard to care)
Lapo Elkann           (we're researching this guy)
David Beckham      (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz)
Ichiro Suzuki          (Who?)
Daniel Day-Lewis   (We love him but his track record is bad)
Clint Eastwood       (What?)
Parrell Williams       (He's on our list, too!)
Christiano Ronaldo  (Whatever)
Pete Doherty           (Is it him or the heroin?)
LeBron James          (Who?)
Ed Westwick           (We refuse to acknowledge Gossip Girl)
Brad Pitt                  (We get it, he's good looking. Next!)
Justin Townes Earl   (Who?)
Jude Law                 (Oh yeah, baby! He's on our list!)
Jay-Z                       (He almost made our list)
Anderson Cooper    (He's on our list, too! We <3 him)

Here at Fashion Autopsy, we love our Johnny D. He’s quite charming and does have a certain ‘je ne ce quoi’ style about him.
However, we disagree with this list.

Why?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
We’re in love with EVERYTHING about him.

If you’ve seen (500) Days of Summer, you’re probably in love with him, too.
To our surprise, this little cutie pie not only can act, he can dress which makes us all swoon and want to undress him. How could GQ leave him off their list?

We're a bit pissed off so we compiled our own list of the most stylish men around—hope you agree! And if you don't, that's just part of the fun, isn't it?

We’ll stick to the Top 10 because really, we could be here all day, drooling.

FA's Top 10 Most Stylish Men 2010

10. Ewan McGreggor
Cute doesn't begin to describe Ewan.  He's adorable, funny and actually quite stylish.  He's too underrated!  We hate that.
He tends to mix his very dressy suit jackets with jeans and tees.  We like how he uses the hanky pocket!  See what we mean?  Adorable.

9. Roger Federer
He has a cool elegance to him both on the court and off.

8. Jason Bateman

He’s grown up on television and used to be rather nerdy. Not anymore. He’s so good looking and very talented which makes him even more desirable. He’s like good old fashioned American apple pie! We need a fork.

He sports the scruffy look better than just about any of our guys on this list. Plus, we love a guy that can accessorize.

7. Johnny Depp
We may not particularly like his style but he has one, an interesting one.  I'm sure he's told many a stylist to go fuck themselves.

His hotness oozes out of him

6.  Tom Ford
We want to be his friend.  He's just so bloody cool!  The best word to describe Ford?  FABULOUS.
He reminds us a lot of Halston; a charm and elegance that is difficult to explain.

How many people can look hot while giving us the finger?  Not many.

5. Anderson Cooper

Andy is hot. In a suit or one of those fitted T’s he sports in disaster, he’s just yummy. We hear he likes the boys but we don’t care.

We would like to be the filling in this sandwich:

4. Pharrell

We love Pharell Williams because it looks like he really thinks about each outfit he wears. He seems to pay very close attention to every detail and has a great love for fashion.

He’s impeccable. Every time.

3. Ryan Gosling
Ryan has this whole casual yet funky style to him.  He seems to know when to wear the suit and when to go casual.  He's quite the little 'mix-it-up' artist.  Wonder if he has a stylist....hmmmm.....

Love this look

Looking hot in a basic white tee.
Very rock star

2. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
This Heath Ledger look-a-like seems to be turning heads in Hollywood lately, coming off his highly acclaimed movie (500) Days of Summer.  Let's just hope Hollywood is reading this:  PLEASE MAKE A DECENT ROMCOM AND PLEASE HAVE IT STAR JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT

God, we love this look on him.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

He looks so much like Heath Ledger--especially in this photo

He looks like Heath here, too!  Freaky.
We're not happy about the fag hanging out of his mouth but everything else is fine by us!

1. Jude Law
Dripping with sex appeal and looks that could kill, Jude Law is phenomenal. He also knows how to put a look together—he never looks styled. That’s what we love about him the most. That and he can be unpredictable. That's why he's our #1 Most Stylish Man for 2010.

He has this James Dean thing about him

See what we mean about 'unpredictable'? Check out the shoes

It really should be illegal to look this good while running errands and blabbing on the phone

So, what do you think of our list?  Agree/Disagree??
