The Weekly DOA

Oh, Toni!  Please Unbreak My Heart!

Toni leaving Mr. Chow’s on April 25, 2010

I love Toni Braxton so much that whenever one of her songs come on the radio, I turn the volume up so high, my windows almost explode.

This is painful to look at, isn’t it?  I mean really, would you even wish this on your worst enemy?
Just when you think it’s bad enough, you see it from the side and you just wish for blindness.

Let’s hope she pulls it together soon as she’s in the midst of releasing a new album.

Ode to Neverfull GM

Some romances may last a few weeks or a few months or even a few years provided you're lucky in love.....but true love lasts a lifetime.

I adore (and take good care of) most of my designer bags but my Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM has become my partner for life.
This, my dear friends, is true love.

Ode to Neverfull GM

I love you for being able to carry all of my crap without complaining
You're only getting better with age
~
I’m sorry for all those times you had to sit on the dirty subway floor
You know it was just out of desperation and stupidy
~
I love you for allowing me to lug you all over Paris in 2008 and didn't get mad when I spilled cafe au lait on you
Did I mention you're only getting better with age?
~
I'm sorry that you had to hear one of my colleagues ask, "is that a real Neverfull?"
You know I would never trust a person who likes to buy their designers handbags in Chinatown
~
I love that fancy, striped lining and the little key ring thingy you gave me
I never use it but love it all the same
~
I'm sorry I got mad at you when you inadvertently knocked over a pile of rye breads at the grocery store
On the bright side, it wasn't eggs
~
I love that you fit PERFECTLY into those bucket things at airport security
You always look so cute, all snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug, even in an ugly, plastic container!

~
But most of all, Neverfull GM, I love you for making me look chic--even that time I had to buy Doritos, Liquid Drano, maxi pads and Gas-X in one (emergency) shopping trip I would soon like to forget

Double Take

Ok, so there's something interesting going on in the Iron Man 2 PR camp:  what's the deal with ScarJo & Gwyneth wearing the same colors for the last two main events?

1.
Wearing grey at the Paramount Pictures & Marvel Entertainment's "Iron Man 2" photo call held at the Four Seasons Hotel on April 23 in LA:

2.
Wearing white at the World premiere of Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment's Iron Man 2 held at El Capitan Theatre on April 26 in Hollywood:
Coincidence?  Or is one trying to out-style the other?
Hmmmmm........

The Weekly DOA

It wasn't difficult to pick a celebrity fashion crime this week.

Amanda Seyfried showed up to the Mother and Child premiere on April 20th in a lovely Bodyamr dress.
Only problem is, her 'fashion-desperation-to-be-avant-garde' overcame her and she just looked like a girl who put her dress on backwards.

Taking The High Road Can Hurt

When it comes to heels, do you know how high you should go without causing permanent damage to your feet?  And your ego, if you can't walk in the bloody things.

(unfortunately for supermodels, they test the boundaries each time they walk down the runway)

According to podiatrists, the height that you can comfortably (and safely) wear is based on your subtalar joint, found in the middle of your foot.
The optimal position varies from person to person….so, do you want to find yours?

What you'll need:
  1. A friend
  2. Two rulers
Sit down, then raise and extend your foot while relaxing your ankle.
Have your friend place one ruler downward from your big toe, then have her use the second ruler to measure the distance between your heel and the first ruler.
This number equals the absolute maximum heel height you should be wearing. (again, that's should, not could)

According to my results, my 3-inch heels are bad for me.
My 4-inch heels? Well, they're killing me.
If you're brave enough to wear 5+ inch heel, your foot is currently begging you for mercy.

But we knew this already, right?

The Christian Louboutin 'Meree' 6-inch heel: Ouch! But ooh, la la!

Frill Seekers

Does anything say, "Summertime!" like a short, airy skirt?
While doing some shopping both online and in store, I've noticed that most of the skirts I'm seeing are either short & printed or short & lace/chiffon in soft nudes.

But there's one thing that most of these cute skirts have in common this season: a big flouncy factor!

The Erdem Spring 2010 went floral-frill-crazy!

I'm really loving that Top Shop eyelet skirt.....

How adorable were the models at the D&G show?  Love all the frills and denim together-a great fashion contradiction: hard meets soft in one outfit.

Pair your frilly skirt with a simple tee & cowboy boots a la D&G or dress it up with a tailored jacket for an evening out.

(if anyone needs me, I'll be busy putting sunlass tanner on these pasty legs)

The Weekly DOA

Jessica Simpson was close to grabbing the Weekly DOA crown until we saw Katherine Heigl show up to a charity event like this:

I tweeted that her Stylist should be banished from fashion and someone asked why celebs agree to things like this.
The answer?
Most celebs are clueless about fashion even though their agents, PR people and movie producer’s want us to think they’re all fashionistas.
Well, they’re not.

There’s a big difference between being stylish and being well-styled.

Artist Spotlight: Fashion Illustrations by PAPERFASHION

It's no secret; Fashion Autopsy loves art.  Especially fashion illustrations.
If I knew how to draw, I would be the happiest (and most obnoxious) artist on the planet.
Oh, well.  Maybe in another life....

So, in this life, I have to rely on the brilliance of others to fulfill my art cravings which brings me to Kathryn Elyse of PAPERFASHION.  Please check out her blog--her work is charming and so harmonious:

PAPERFASHION

I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a couple of her splendid Alexander McQueen drawings just after he passed away.
I got them in the mail yesterday and I'm still staring at them.

I'm currently on the hunt for a spot on my crowded walls to hang these beauties.

You can purchase some of PAPERFASHION's incredible pieces on Etsy:

Polished

When it comes to nails, I don’t take many risks-I like a classic look.
It’s either a dark red, a French pink or Lincoln Park After Dark for me so when I see blue polish popping up all over the place, I cringe.

I’ll never try an electric blue (unless my manicurist gets me drunk) but a navy blue can certainly work for someone like me; a nail polish Prudence McPrude.

I'm going to try that Butter London shade of navy.  That's as far as I'll go.

Some other hot shades for nails this season:

Corals are everywhere....including the Oscar de la Renta Spring 2010 show:

Purples
Ginnifer Goodwin had the best nails ever in the movie He's Just Not That Into You (her nails are all I remember of that irritating film)

I have that Nars shade--it looks even better on toes!

Taupes (a Prudence McPrude can handle a taupe--it's just boring enough)

Sandra Bullock at the Golden Globes

I'm loving that Chanel...must purchase asap.

The Weekly DOA

Every Friday, we like to recap the week by picking out the worst outift since the Bjork/Swan/Oscars monstrosity.
In other words; an outfit considered Dead On Arrival.

This week, the winner is......

Agyness Deyn

Strolling the streets of Manhattan on April 5th, Aggy looks like she's been styled by Levi Strauss & Benjamin Moore.
Is that shirt as bad as the Swan dress?  Not quite....but it's close.  Ugh.

We deserve better from our so-called fashion icons.

Kate Middleton: A Future Queen?

Media is buzzing today with reports of a possible Royal Engagement announcement in June.
Will Prince William finally pop the question to long-time girlfriend, Kate Middleton?
It's a delicious thought.

Kate will make a great Queen--she wears hats well:

Model Elettra Wiedemann

Elettra Wiedemann, daughter of Isabella Rossellini covers the May edition of Elle Canada:

She's a Lancome spokesmodel, following in Mom's footsteps:

However, she's not just another pretty face with a famous family.  She's currently completing her master's degree in biomedicine at The London School of Economics.

If I looked like this, the last thing I would want to do is study but....to each their own

Proof that good looks don't skip a generation in this family:

I Love You Tube: THIERRY MUGLER/GEORGE MICHAEL "Too Funky" video

This is why I love You Tube; you can literally find something new everyday.  And if you're really lucky (like I was today) you could stumble upon a gem like this: A behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Too Funky video, circa 1992  (watch for newbie Tyra!)

Here's the video in its entirety--I couldn't embed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXj2TudPCYU

Thierry Mugler is brilliant, non?  And just sooo French.

Sigh. I miss the 90's.  And fashion misses Thierry Mugler.
